Denbigh Castle

£5/day

Denbigh Castle was constructed in the 13th century, and its rich battle history spans from Edward I’s invasion of Wales and the subsequent Welsh uprisings through the Wars of the Roses and the English Civil War. Today, its evocative remains offer a look into the history of mediaeval Britain and make for a fascinating family outing.

Denbigh Castle was constructed circa 1282 as part of King Edward I’s “iron ring” of fortifications to assert his rule over Wales. Edward invaded Wales in 1277, defeating Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (Llywelyn the Last) as prince of Wales, and proceeded to enclose it with a dramatic physical reminder of his power.
